After registering and paying the $20 fee, WoW players may create up to 3 characters on specialized tournament realms. These characters are created at level 80, are fully customizable, and have access to vendors to fully equip for combat. Teams may have up to six players who will compete in three on three last standing matches.
The top 1000 teams will be invited to compete in a one week invitational ladder, with the top 8 teams from the invitational moving on to the regional finals. The global finals will culminate with the winning team being awarded the $75,000 top prize.
WoW Character Customization for Arena Combatants
Players in the World of Warcraft 2009 Arena Tournament will be able to create up to three different level 80 characters on the tournament realm they join. Once character class and race is chosen, the level 80 character enters into the World of Warcraft to customize their character. Once in the starting area, players have access to everything they will need to excel in arena combat.
Vendors will be available for players spend the unlimited gold they have access to by purchasing items and training. World of Warcraft arena combatants will all have access to full sets of level 80 weapons and armor – including raid, PvP, and honor rewards all scaled to tournament level. Players will also have full access to specialized NPCs providing soul shards, hunter pets, glyphs, gems, enchantments, trinkets and more. When the time comes to enter the arena, players will be fully equipped and armed for combat.
WoW Arena Tournament – Regional and Global Finals
Teams in the World of Warcraft 2009 PvP arena tournament may have up to six members, sending teams of 3 into each match. The online qualifier, which began February 24, 2009, will run for a total of six weeks. After the two week practice round, all team values are reset and the action begins. After four weeks of battle, the top 1000 teams will be invited to participate in the invitational ladder. The top eight teams will be sent to their regional finals. Regional champions will compete in the global finals for the top prize of $75,000.
Prizes for the WoW arena tournament global finals are as follows: $75,000 for first place, $30,000 for second place, and $15,000 for third place. Players in the WoW regional finals will win $15,000 for first place, $6,000 for second place, $3,000 for third place, $1,500 for fourth place, and $600 for fifth through eighth place.
